This position is at our Little Falls, (Wilmington), Delaware site, located midway between Baltimore and Philadelphia. There, we have 800 people inventing, designing, building and marketing products that lead the market for chemical analysis. Our products are frequently behind the headlines in the news, from environmental regulations to new drug discoveries to food safety.
In our R&D; group, you'll be part of a team that analyzes, designs, prototypes and tests new products. We work in a multidisciplinary and cross functional team. Most projects require mechanical, electrical and firmware engineers, as well as chemists and software engineers, to create a complete system. As part of those projects, you will also work with our manufacturing, purchasing and marketing departments to transform your designs into shipping products. Though you'll be part of a team, you will also be working independently and setting your own priorities. The scope and complexity of your projects will be based on your existing knowledge and capabilities as well as how fast you can acquire new skills. Mechanical Engineers at our site work on a wide variety of products with an equally wide variety of technologies. These include thermal and pneumatic subsystems, robotic automation products, proprietary chemical sensors and state-of-the-art fabrication techniques for mechanical components.
Bachelor's Degree or Master Degree in Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary, cross-department environment with good communication skills. The ability to design, model and analyze mechanical systems using a solid theoretical understanding of engineering principles.
Demonstrated skill and interest in at least two of the disciplines listed below. 1) Robotics, automation, motion control, mechanisms and drive assemblies. 2) Thermal systems, 3) Pneumatic systems, 4) Machine design of instrument components, including precision machined and sheet metal parts, ceramics and molded plastic parts. 5) Materials science and selection over a wide variety of environments.
Skill or experience in the following areas would be a plus, but aren't required. 1) Experience in computer aided design systems (2D and 3D solids). 2) "Hands on" laboratory experience. 3) Technical internships.
